Ahead of the final round of the $20,000 WA PGA Trainee Championship, John Boulton had to sleep on a 13-shot lead but quickly changed the what-if to by how many at the start of round four.

It was a stunning day for the last round of the Championship where John produced the most dominant performance seen in a PGA event for some time leading from start to finish to win by a massive 15 shots at 20-under the card.

Vowing to keep it simple after his opening round of 67, Boulton made the game of golf look easy in his following rounds of 66, 66 and 69 for a 268 tournament total.

“I’m so happy with the result, it was an awesome week and to win by that many is amazing,” Boulton said.

The WA local knocked all negative thoughts over the big lead out of his mind from the get-go to try and relax and enjoy the final 18-holes.

“The mind plays funny games with you and to come out and eagle the first hole of the day to shut down any thoughts down was great.

John will now be hoping to take his fine form to the $60,000 National Futures Championship in Ballarat, Victoria next month.
