On Monday evening, General Manager Troy O’Hern invited all WA Open Volunteers and Staff to an informal BBQ Sundowner to thank them for making the WA Open in 2025 a stand-out event for the Club.
We have also received a thank you letter from GOLF WA to Troy regarding hosting the Open and described the event as “…no doubt the most successful WA Open that GolfWA has conducted! And clearly, Mount Lawley Golf Club played a significantly major role in the success of the tournament.”
Dear Troy
Re: 2025 Nexus Advisernet Bowra & O’Dea WA Open
What an unbelievable Championship and no doubt the most successful WA Open that GolfWA has conducted! And clearly, Mount Lawley Golf Club played a significantly major role in the success of the tournament.
Thus, on behalf of the Board of GolfWA I write to extend our sincere appreciation for your brilliant support as the Host Venue Club of the 2025 Nexus Advisernet Bowra & O’Dea WA Open, held from October 16 – 19.
There is no doubt that this year’s WA Open was an amazing success on so many levels and this is very much attributable to the magnificent manner in which Mount Lawley Golf Club presented their facilities. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone at your Club who was involved in any capacity for pulling together a wonderful tournament. As General Manager, I have no doubt you are quite rightly proud of your team and you were all a pleasure to work with. From a tournament perspective, the quality of the golf produced by the players was outstanding and produced a gripping finish with Oliver Bekker producing great golf over the weekend and holding his nerve on the 72nd hole. Also, the crowds were amazing and I know that the Club has received quite rightly a lot of positive feedback from players and spectators on the presentation of the course and the service provided in all areas. Whilst we are yet to receive initial figures from Kayo and Golf Australia on viewer and social media numbers, I do know that our own GolfWA website traffic has smashed through the previous monthly high to reach 110,000 page views (previous high was 107,618, set in July 2024). This is already a 30% increase on October 2024 figures….Read the full letter here.

The 101st WA Open Golf Championship | October 16-19 Mount Lawley Golf Club
The excitement is building as your Club gears up for staging the WA Open for the 11th time, and the first time since 2018, when Victorian amateur Zach Murray recorded a two-stroke victory.
The championship was first held at the club in 1948, when it was won by New South Welshman Ossie Pickworth. Other notable champions from WA Opens at Mount Lawley include nine-time Major champion Gary Player (1956), Terry Gale (1982) and Stephen Leaney (1997).
This year’s winner is set to claim a top prize of $36,000 from a record prize purse of $200,000
