Fallen Tree

On Wednesday this week half of a large multi stemmed Tuart gum (endemic) tree on the right of the 3rd fairway fell across the fairway (see photo) during strong easterly winds. The course staff were quick into action to clean the tree off the fairway before play. Unfortunately some Tuart trees form multi stems/trunks making them susceptible to root/fungal disease within the fork of the multi stem, as in this case. Mature Tuarts are also prone to dropping branches. Although this particular tree wasn't deemed unsafe in the 2020 ArborCarbon tree survey, we should be mindful of standing under large Eucalypt trees on the course particular in strong winds as most of the mature Eucalypt species on the course are prone to dropping branches.

Cyanobacteria (Blue Green Algae)

Members may have noticed yellow spots on the greens over the past few weeks. This has been identified as Cyanobacteria or Blue-green algae and has affected the greens previously due to the water quality in the irrigation lake. The irrigation water in the lake is being treated with a Nanonbubble system (NBT) and is currently under trial for 6 months which strips the bacteria from the water and injects oxygen into Nano bubbles which are then irrigated onto the golf course. Over the past month there has been some 'teething' issues and the system was only running at half capacity. The NBT is now running at full capacity again and we expect to see a great improvement in the water quality within the week. At this point we believe the presence of Cyanobacteria (Yellow spot) in the greens is due to the NBT not running at full capacity for the past month.

The good news is the Yellow spot can be controlled with fungicide and an application was made this week with further applications in the coming weeks. The Yellow spot in general does not die out, is superficial and will recover.

Guests on Course - Dress Standard

At this time of the year we generally see an influx of member guests on the course.  As is often the case, a number of our guests are arriving in unsuitable attire.  Can we please remind all members that it is your responsibility to ensure that your guests are aware of the dress standards that are expected here at Mount Lawley.

If you are bringing guests to play here, to avoid possible embarrassment, can you please ensure that they are not wearing the following:

  • Thongs
  • T-shirts
  • Drawstring or gym shorts / Track pants
  • Denim
  • Singlets
  • Cargo shorts / pants

Although we are happy to sell a new outfit to your guests, it might be easier to have them dress appropriately at home.

Please refer to clause 4 of the Club By-laws if you are unsure of the dress standards.

Thank you for your support.

Please complete the attached form and return to the administration team indicating which competitions you wish to enter in 2024 by no later than Wednesday 21st February 2024.

Printed copies of these forms can also be found in the foyer of the Women's locker room.

Donations will need to be pledged before Monday 29th January to ensure they are included in the 2024 fixture book and can be as little as $40
