FUMIGATIONAn important step in the Greens Replacement Program is to cold gas fumigate the new green complexes using Ethanedinitrile (EDN). EDN is an environmentally friendly fumigant that naturally breaks down in the air. It is not a greenhouse gas and does not destroy the ozone layer. EDN does not remain as a residue in the environment nor accumulate in the soil, plants, or animals.
EDN will remove any Sting nematodes from the soil profile. Sting nematodes are among the most damaging of all plant-parasitic nematodes. Feeding by this nematode kills the root meristem and halts root growth. Following fumigation, and once the profile is clean we will import 300mm of new sand compost blend to the greens with "good" microorganisms included in this blend to encourage healthy plant growth.
The fumigation process is undertaken by a licenced fumigator with approval granted by the Government of WA Department of Health. One of the important conditions when applying EDN is to ensure a suitable exclusion zone which as per the Department of Health is 10 metres. Although the fumigation is conducted after hours we will be closing the clubhouse early on the day(s) the new 18th green and practice putting greens are being fumigated. This is scheduled for Tuesday 20th August and the clubhouse will close at 5:30pm on this day. Large plastic sheets cover the areas being fumigated and these will remain in place for up to 10 days. Unfortunately if the weather does not cooperate we may need to defer this application to Thursday 22nd August. Members will be informed if this is the case. We thank you for your understanding and if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact General Manager Troy O'Hern. |
