Greens Replacement Program - Stage 3 Update

The final stage of the Greens Replacement Program (GRP) is almost upon us with work scheduled to commence in the coming weeks. Members will be regularly updated on the work schedule prior to, and as the work progresses.

Some upcoming work is outlined below:

Monday June 17 - the shaded areas in the image below will be sprayed with Roundup on Monday morning (weather permitting).  This is in preparation for the reconstruction of the practice tee in July and the redevelopment of Campbells Walk. We ask members to stay clear of this area, until after midday. The small putting green to the left of the practice tee will be closed to prevent tracking onto the green. The driving range will be closed until 12noon and artificial hitting mats will be positioned on the practice tee when opened.

Thursday June 20 - Course staff will strip the turf from the rough at the rear of the 9th green behind the Jacaranda tree, and top of Campbells walk. This area will be used to mine native sand for the GRP and 4th fairway bunkers. No effect on play.

Monday June 24 - OCM arrive onsite and will commence fairway bunker reconstruction on the 11th, 12th and 18th holes. The 18th hole will be played with a temporary green from this point and through the GRP project. Course staff will commence stripping the turf and reticulation rom the 18th green complex.

Monday July 1 -  OCM commence the GRP on the 18th green and clubhouse area. Greens 4, 9, 17, 18 and the 10th & 15th holes will be taken out of play. The 19th hole will be in play and a 17 hole golf course will be in play from this point and through the GRP project.

Charity Day | Supporting Breast Cancer Care WA

We baked, we sewed, we knitted, we collected, we raffled and all in the name of raising money for our Charity Day recipient, Breast Cancer Care WA, and what a day we had!

With 160 in the field this year, it was always going to be a big and fun day. Some of our visitors found the bunkers and greens a little tough going but with our band of men volunteers on the course to rake and give encouragement, despite the rain, we had some great scores.  Congratulations to our winners, Dottie Chaine and Lolita Farmer with 45 points.

Many thanks to everyone involved and to those who helped in any way, by donating, volunteering, baking, making, playing and buying - it was a very successful day.  The comments about the course and the food and beverage were all extremely positive and the rain was soon forgotten!

Marie Westlake Perpetual Trophy | Winner Kaye Hanson

The Marie Westlake Perpetual Trophy was played in what some would say were tough conditions. Those being the weather and pin placements!

However, this view wasn't held by everyone with the winner, Kaye Hanson, recording a fine 39 points closely followed by the next five players on 38 points.

Debra Majteles (38) was second on a countback from Lyn Hancock, Dorothy Chaine, Deb Nowotny and Yuko Lucas.

The presentation was special to everyone as Kaye was presented with the trophy by Marie Westlake.  Marie relocated to Albany in February this year and it was wonderful that her health was good and her daughter, Gail, could bring her to Perth for this prestigious event on the women's golfing calendar.

A delicious high tea was served with many saying that tea is definitely tastes better in a china cup.  Marie enjoyed catching up and chatting with everyone - thank you for making her day so special.

In the words of Marie's daughter "It was a truly sensational day!"
